I Just Wanna Know You

about

I wrote this song late one night 17 years ago in the youth room at the church I was working at. It just came to me and I started singing it. Back in 2017, I wanted to record this song and I started the process. I created a folder and started recording, but it never came out right. Due some circumstances in my life, my passion for music was gone. When I decided this go around to record the song, I found the folder dated June 2017. It was not meant to record then...

There is a marvelous story in the Bible of a woman who was bleeding. The Bible says that she had spent all of her money for doctors to not find something wrong with her. During this whole time, according to the Law of Moses, she was unclean and everything and everyone she came in contact with was unclean as well. However, she heard that Jesus was in her town. Her thought was if she could just touch the hem of his garment then she would be healed. He did not have to touch her. He did not even have to speak to her. She just had to get close enough to touch his garment. She had to get close to him.

Paul writes, "Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12).

In our life, our desire and goal should be to be where Jesus is no matter the cost. The two sisters in the bible, Mary and Martha, show this truth perfectly. While Jesus was in their town, they hosted him. He was teaching. Martha was running around working and getting everything prepared, but Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet. Martha was feeling overwhelmed and, I believe, she asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her in exasperation. But Jesus responded that Mary had chosen the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong with working FOR God. But when your works FOR God overtake and replace the workings OF God, that is when you need to step back and reassess. In fact, in the book of Matthew, Jesus says, " Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:22-23). Unless we know God, we can do everything FOR him and still He not know us.

Knowing God is what our ultimate goal should be, and here is the thing: WE HAVE THAT ABILITY! God told us to ask and it will be given to us; seek and we WILL find; knock and the door will be opened. We have the ability to come to God and know him the way that he wants to be known - as Father, as friend, as brother, as Comforter, as healer, as provider, and LORD, as righteous Judge, as the lover of our souls, as our Savior. He wants to be known in whatever capacity we need him. When Moses was on the mountain, he asked God, "Who shall I say sent me?" God replied, "Tell them that 'I am that I am" sent you", meaning, whatever you need me to be to let Pharoah know that I am God and he isn't, that is what I will be. How do you need to know God in this moment?

Here is a list of some of the Hebrew names of God. Whichever one you need, call on that name! He will show up!

Do you need a friend you can talk to or someone who will take care of you and lead to? Call upon Jehovah Raah - The LORD my shepherd (Psalm 23). #JehovahRaah

Are you sick or someone close to you sick? Does a loved one need healing in their minds? Then call upon Jehovah Rapha - The LORD that heals (Exodus 15.26) #JehovahRapha

Do you feel like you cannot do anything right? Like Paul, you feel as if those things that you do want to do you don't and those things you don't want to do you do them anyway (Romans 7.15-16)? Then call upon Jehovah Tsidkenu - The LORD our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23.6). #JehovahTsidkenu

Do you have a problem trying to measure up to a standard imposed on you by the church and feel like you fail all of the time? Are you finding it hard to keep the rules and regulations set forth by the system? Remember, you were never meant to follow a rules in an effort to make yourself holy! That is God's job. Call upon Jehovah Mekoddishkem - The LORD who sanctifies you (Exodus 32.13; Leviticus 20.8). Let God be the standard you follow! #JehovahMekoddishkem

Are you in need? Are you in financial need? Do you have something that has come up and you do not know how it will be taken care of? Then call upon Jehovah Jireh - The LORD will provide (Genesis 22.14). #JehovahJireh

Is there confusion surrounding you? Is everything a storm and you feel like you will lose your mind if something does not happen? Then call upon Jehovah Shaloam - The LORD is peace (Judges 6.24). Remember, God will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed upon the Lord and trusts in Him (Isaiah 26.3). #JehovahShaloam

Do you need protection from the onslaught of the enemy? Do you feel as if the battle is so intense and that you are loosing your footing? Before you surrender, call upon the one who is commander of EVERY army - natural and spiritual! Jehovah Sabaoth - The LORD of hosts (1 Sam. 1.3). God is fighting your battles for you. Let him fight (Exodus 14.14). #JehovahSabaoth

Or do you need to know that someone is there and that they care? Then call upon Jehovah Shammah - The LORD is there (Ezekial 48.35) #JehovahShammah

Let this song be a source of remembrance to just take a deep breath amongst the hustle and bustle of the day. Sit at Jesus' feet. Love on Jesus and let him love on you!

lyrics

VERSE:
Here in the middle of the secret place
Standing in your presence I look at your face
My fear is gone and nothing else matters
I'm safe inside, wrapped in your embrace
And I hear you ask,
"Who do men say I am?"

CHORUS:
I just want to know you
I just want to touch you
I just want to see you for myself instead of believing someone else
It's by my faith I know you're real
'Cause in your presence I can feel your love for me
So genuinely and true
I just want to know you.

VERSE:
Crawling in your lap you turn your face towards me
Bathing in your love I'm so happy and free
It's you and me. It's me and you forever
I finally found the place where I'm supposed to be
And I hear your heart beat a melody soft and sweet

REPEAT CHORUS
