More Than The Lilies

from Naked Heart by Walter Dyal

about

"I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, 'Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?" (Psalm 8:3-4 MSG)

This is the Second song of the 'Bride of Christ'. Here, we know the familiar story of Jesus telling his disciples to not worry about tomorrow. He said to look around and see how the lilies of the field are clothed. How the Sparrow can fall and God the father knows it.

This song is the second level of a relationship: the proposal. Up until this point, the man has courted the lady. He has learned about her. He has learned her inside and out. Now, he has to prove that he has what it takes to take care of her forever. To provide for her. To be there for her. To show her that he is serious about her and their future together. We as the bride, are singing this song. Just like David wrote in Psalm, we are overwhelmed by the love and attention we are getting from our Jealous Lover, that it makes us shrink back a little and start to think about the possibility of a future as a bride. In that moment, the Jealous Lover reminds us what he has done, what he can do, and what he will do. And then, once the fears are settled, he gets down on one knee, pulls out forever, and asks, " Marry Me?" In that moment, we have a choice...

lyrics

VERSE:
When I think of how big that You really are
I wonder why bother with me at all
The vastness of space with the beauty of stars
When compared with creation I feel really small

CHORUS:
Yet you wrap Your arms around me and tell me to look and see
You take care of the lilies and give the sparrows a place to sleep
And I hear you whisper to my heart ‘Come marry me’.

VERSE:
You make me lie down in pastures green
You lead me by waters calm and pristine
You number my hairs establish my days
And you are familiar with all of my ways

REPEAT CHORUS
